The Long Distance dialog box lets you specify how long distance numbers should be dialed.  PhoneBook considers any number with the first part in parenthesees, to be a long distance number, such as [phone].  Be careful that there are no spaces before the first parenthesee.

Long Distance Number is the number you usually dial before dialing a long distance number.  Usually this is a ΓÇÿ0ΓÇÖ or a ΓÇÿ1,ΓÇÖ but may be different depending on your long distance service.  Remember to put a comma or two after the long distance number if your carrier needs some extra time to ΓÇÿconnect.ΓÇÖ

800 numbers are handled differently.  Phonebook ignores the Long Distance Number and automatically substitutes a ΓÇÿ1.ΓÇÖ

If ΓÇÿPrompt for Long Distance Account #ΓÇÖ is checked, and the number is a long distance number, PhoneBook asks you for your account number. If you usually use the same account number, you can specify the default number in space provided (you may not want to though, for security reasons).  If Dial Without Interruptions is checked in the Dial Setup dialog box, PhoneBook will just use the Default number if youΓÇÖve entered it and wonΓÇÖt ask you.

If ΓÇÿRespect Local Area CodeΓÇÖ is checked, PhoneBook will NOT treat a number as a long distance number if its area code (the part in parenthees) is the same as the area code given here.  For example, if you are dialing the number [phone] and you are currently in the 612 area code, you can tell PhoneBook that this is a local call by checking this checkbox and entering 612 next to it.
